Oxford Millwall

Oxford United host Millwall in the second of the Carabao Cup this evening as Karl Robinson’s side look to end a run of three successive league defeats.

Robinson’s side followed up defeats against Blackpool and Burton Albion with a loss at Bristol Rovers on Saturday, while Millwall have made a steady start to their Championship campaign.

The U’s in Need of a Win

Oxford made a bright start to the season, drawing at Sunderland and recording wins against Peterborough United in both the league and the first round of this cup competition. But the three defeats have seen the U’s drop to 17th in League One.

As for Millwall, they’ve suffered just one defeat this season, but it was a 4-0 drubbing at Fulham. They opened the season with a win against Preston before picking up a point at West Brom. They then overcame the Baggies in the first round of the cup.

A win against Sheffield Wednesday and a draw at Middlesbrough fell either side of their loss in West London.

Stick or Twist?

Despite a decent performance at Blackpool, Robinson may be concerned about certain areas on the pitch after their third successive defeat, and he may make changes. Matty Taylor and Cameron Brannagan both picked up knocks at Rovers, so it’s likely Jamie Mackie and Alex Rodriguez Gorrin will return. Defensively, it could be a good opportunity for Elliott Moore to prove his worth despite making his first league start at Rovers on Saturday.

As for Millwall, Matt Smith and Tom Bradshaw have both scored twice this season, and Neil Harris has played a relatively consistent starting line-up this season. The visitors will fancy their chances having won their last two meetings at the Kassam Stadium and their recent form is stronger than the U’s.
