League Two Review: Matchweek 3

League Two review

There are no 100% records left in League Two after just three weeks. The draw between Swindon Town and Exeter City keeps the pair at the top of the table on seven points, while Forest Green Rovers are just behind. It’s certainly a signal of how tight we can expect League Two to be this season.

League Two Review: Matchweek 3

Swindon Stalemate

Debutant Eoin Doyle rescued a late point for Swindon Town away at Exeter City to put his side at the top of League Two on goal difference ahead of Exeter.

The Irishman was making his first appearance for the Robins after arriving on a season-long loan from Bradford City and proved to be an instant hero with his late finish.

Exeter had taken a fairly late lead themselves when Matt Jay turned in Lee Martin’s cross on 72 minutes. Jay then almost made it two but saw his effort blocked on the line by teammate Dean Moxey.

Luck then wasn’t on their side again and Zeki Fryers provided the cross for Doyle to convert two minutes from time and preserve their unbeaten start to the season.

Bradford Off the Mark in Fine Fashion

Swindon goalscorer Doyle’s parent club, Bradford City, cruised to a comfortable victory without his services, getting their first win of the season with the 3-0 defeat of Oldham Athletic.

Former Premier League striker James Vaughan opened the scoring after just four minutes when he converted Connor Wood’s cross from the left, and it was two before half-time when Clayton Donaldson, so often a menace at this level in the past, proved he still can be with a delightful lob over goalkeeper Gary Woods.

A much more even affair ensued in the second half but the Bantams were still able to find a third goal to kill the game off. Donaldson did well to hold the ball up and he laid off for Sean Scannell to fire in and round off an excellent day for Bradford.
