Ross Embleton’s Leyton Orient frustrated themselves as they drew 0-0 against Stevenage. The O’s were left to rue their missed chances in what as a competitive goalless draw.
Leyton Orient Held to Goalless Draw Against Stevenage
First-Half
In the first-half, Lee Angol and Conor Wilkinson had chances for the home side. However, Paul Farman in the Stevenage goal was in great form. Both strikers had a few headers saved by Farman, who had a great game.
Kurtis Guthrie was brought down inside the box in the 26th minute. Referee Lee Swabey initially pointed to the spot, awarding Stevenage a penalty. However, the penalty was not awarded and the visitors were given a corner after Swabey spoke to his assistant.
Stevenage were then without captain Scott Cuthbert. Just after half an hour, the former Orient man was taken off after sustaining an injury. However, despite his absence, Stevenage continued their resiliency.
Second-Half
The second-half was much like the first. Once again, Orient saw a lot of possession and a few more chances.
Substitute Dale Gorman’s long-range effort was tipped over by Farman. James Brophy proved to be a thorn in the side of the Stevenage defence, but nothing materialised for the O’s.
Another Wilkinson header was denied by Farman, who was having a fantastic afternoon. On the contrary, a frustrating one for the O’s frontmen. As for the visitors, they had rare bursts going forward but were not afraid to attack when presented an opening.
Finally, in the dying second of the game, Danny Newton’s effort which was heading for the bottom corner was saved by Dean Brill. The O’s keeper turned away Newton’s low-driven effort, which ultimately sealed a point for Orient.
A Frustrating Afternoon for Leyton Orient
At this point, a draw is not a bad result for either side. However, Orient will be feeling hard done by. Twenty three shots on goal in a goalless draw reflects a frustrating afternoon for Ross Embleton’s side.
With just one goal scored in three games so far, hopefully the O’s can start to take their chances in front of goal. Both strikers Lee Angol and Conor Wilkinson search for the first goals of the season.
