Championship side Huddersfield Town have sacked manager Jan Siewert just three games into the Championship season. The Terriers collected just one point so far this campaign and were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League One side Lincoln City. The departure comes after Ivan Cavaleiro’s wonder-goal helped Fulham to beat Siewert’s side at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Where Did it All Go Wrong?
Siewert was brought in at the back end of last season in an attempt to save Huddersfield from almost-inevitable relegation from the Premier League. He was thrown in at the deep end when, realistically, even the best of managers would have struggled to keep a side that low on confidence up.
The Terriers won just one of Siewert’s 19 games in charge – a 1-0 success against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Three draws on top of that means that the German secured just six points in his entire time in Yorkshire. In other terms, it was a win rate of an astonishingly low 5.3%.
Recruitment at the club both in January and throughout the summer targeted young, hungry players from the lower leagues. Karlan Grant, who is one of the few to have had any credibility last season and so far this season, arrived from Charlton Athletic, while Josh Koroma and Reece Brown were brought in from Leyton Orient and Forest Green Rovers respectively.
It seems, though, that Huddersfield are still feeling the effects of that dismal Premier League campaign that saw them come close to the record fewest points total set by Derby County in 2007/08. Whoever comes in next will have the mammoth task of trying to restore confidence and turn the tides.
