A new era has dawned at Stamford Bridge. Former Chelsea player and legend Frank Lampard is embarking on a role he did not expect so soon in his managerial career; the transfer ban is likely to give the youth a chance, and the Champions League is back for Chelsea. There is an awful lot to be excited for, yet nobody knows how it will all turn out as they embark on the new Chelsea season.
Frank Lampard succeeded, in a sense, at Derby County. However, the jump from the Championship to the top of the Premier League is going to prove tough. As a result, the pressure is off of the new manager as he needs time to embed his ideas.
New Frank Lampard Era Begins At Chelsea
Don’t Expect too Much too Soon as the New Chelsea Season Begins
The Frank Lampard era at Stamford Bridge has a lot of potential to bring success. However, the new man must be given time to influence his ideas and develop his squad. Something that is gone array under Roman Abramovich over the past few seasons.
Lampard is, in a managerial sense, incredibly inexperienced. He has just one year of managerial experience under his belt. The 41-year-old will have learnt a lot during his year with Derby County. However, there is a gap in quality between the two sides and competitions they compete in.
As a result, Frank Lampard deserves to be given time to adapt and give his squad time to adapt to his ideas. This is a new era for the whole of Chelsea, not just the next the chapter in Lampard’s managerial career.
Use the Youth, They Will Be Like New Signings
The year-long transfer ban given to Chelsea could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Having a manager at the helm who gives youth a chance could work out in the young guns’ favour.
Historically Chelsea have never given their youngsters game time. Only a handful have broken into the first team in recent years. As a result, many are keen to see the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori feature.
The most likely to feature is Mason Mount, who is well-liked by Lampard following his loan spell at Derby County last season. He scored eight goals and registered four assists during his loan spell, which resulted in an England call-up.
Chelsea Shouldn’t Place too Much Emphasis on the Champions League
Chelsea have returned to the Champions League. However, it needs to be used a learning curve for Frank Lampard in this new season and era.
His Champions League form shouldn’t dictate whether he keeps his job. The world’s best club competition will prove tough and gruelling on Chelsea. As a result, they should not place too much emphasis on the Champions League.
Expectation For New Chelsea Season
A top four finish will be seen as a major success for Fran Lampard and Chelsea this season. However, with their top four rivals improving, it may prove a tough ask.
Perhaps to have no expectation is the key for this season, to allow for a smooth transition for Lampard into his new role.
