It has been a roller coaster for everyone associated with Leyton Orient in the last few years, with relegation from the Football League, a takeover, promotion, and recently the tragic loss of head coach Justin Edinburgh. Now back in the EFL, the O’s will look to re-establish themselves. Despite enduring a rough summer, they have every reason to remain optimistic during the forthcoming campaign under the guidance of Ross Embleton.
Ross Embleton Ready to Lead Leyton Orient Back into EFL
Appointments in the Leyton Orient Helm
After the tragic loss of Justin Edinburgh in June, Ross Embleton was appointed as the club’s interim head coach.
Working his way up the ranks in the coaching system at Leyton Orient, Embleton was the only appropriate man for the job. Familiar with the club and players, he is someone who can take the club forward with the best knowledge.
Additionally, Jobi McAnuff was appointed interim player-coach for the season, and Danny Webb now interim assistant head coach. All three men are very familiar and popular with the O’s faithful, and it was hard to argue with these appointments being made.
Summer Signings – Can They Make an Impact?
Several new signings have arrived at the Breyer Group Stadium. Both Macauley Bonne and Josh Koroma have departed. They were key player’s in Orient’s promotion from the National League last season.
Following Bonne’s departure, the O’s snapped up Conor Wilkinson from Dagenham and Redbridge. The 24-year-old scored 11 goals last season for the Daggers. It will be interesting to see where he fits into Embleton’s plans this season.
Also, another striker in Lee Angol joined the club from Shrewsbury Town. The former Salop forward signed a two-year contract with the club and has been impressive during pre-season.
Another familiar face in Josh Wright returned to the club. Formerly an O’s player a few years ago, Wright was snapped following his departure from relegated Bradford City. He was Edinburgh’s final signing before passing away.
Where Will the O’s Finish?
Capping off last season in style, the O’s have lots to be optimistic about. Now back in the EFL after two seasons away, predictions will begin as early as fans desire.
The quality in the fourth-tier this season is outstanding. The likes of Plymouth Argyle, Mansfield Town, and Bradford City will look to occupy the top seven. On the contrary, sides such as Morecambe and Macclesfield Town will know how to scrap results and provide a torrid time.
At this point, it is realistic for Orient to aim for a mid-table finish. Securing and establishing themselves back in the EFL is a must this season. However, by the same token, they have to avoid a relegation battle.
