Wolverhampton Wanderers have made their first signing of this transfer window, acquiring defender Jesus Vallejo on a season-long loan from Real Madrid. The move comes off the back of Vallejo captaining Spain to glory at the European U21 Championships earlier this summer.

Career So Far
Vallejo came through the youth ranks at Real Zaragoza, making 31 appearances in the 2014/15 before Real Madrid came calling. However, he was loaned back to Zaragoza for 2015/16 making a further 20 appearances.
The youngster then spent the next season in Germany on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring a single goal in 25 outings for the Bundesliga side.
In his short time actually playing for Madrid, he has scored once in 12 games.
Internationally, Vallejo has played for four different levels of the Spain national team and is currently captain of their U21 side, where he has appeared 22 times.
Vallejo’s experience of the Champions League will be vital to Wolves in their Europa League campaign this season. They are already underway with their campaign, having beaten Northern Irish side Crusaders in the first leg of their Second Qualifying Round fixture.
Competition
The Spaniard adds an excellent level of competition to a defence that was already well-equipped to compete in the Premier League.
It’s likely that he will play on the right side of the back three, swapping with Ryan Bennett when needed, with Conor Coady and Willy Boly having impressed the most last season.
Expect Bennett to continue to play a consistent role in the side though, as Wolves perhaps got a tad lucky with injuries last season. They had no real back-up to the usual back three, but the signing of Vallejo easily combats that problem.
