According to Sky Sports, Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is set to hold talks with Everton. A move to Goodison Park would create great confusion among Palace fans; the Ivorian has previously expressed his desire to play in the Champions League. As a result, the 26-year-old would not be making progress in his career should a move to Everton transpire.
Wilfried Zaha Would Not Progress at Everton
No European Football: Why Make The Move?
Everton currently do not offer the opportunity of playing in Europe. Speaking to Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail in April 2019, Zaha expressed his desire to play in the Champions League, saying: “I have to experience the Champions League. I just need the opportunity, that’s it.”
As a result, a move to Everton would appear baffling. While they are more likely to offer European football than Crystal Palace in the future, it is something that is not on the table at the moment.
The Ivorian star has also been attracting interest from Arsenal this window. They have so far seen two bids rejected and now the likelihood of a move to The Emirates for Zaha is deteriorating. However, at least Arsenal offer the current prospect of European football, all be it in the Europa League.
Wilfried Zaha Should Remain at Crystal Palace as a Star
Wilfried Zaha is not only a fans’ favourite at Selhurst Park, but also Roy Hodgson’s prized asset and key player. Last season he scored a career-best ten goals to help maintain their Premier League status. At times, he single-handedly carried Palace to safety at times last season.
However, if he moved to Everton he would become just another fish in the pond. Everton already have a number of high quality players signed for extortionate prices, such as Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson. He would not be the standout player like he is at Crystal Palace.
Verdict
A move to Everton would appear unlikely at first thought for Wilfried Zaha. However, football is a strange game and anything can happen. As a result, it is one to keep an eye on for any football fan.
