Last Season
At the beginning of last season, Buffon joined PSG, after 17 years at the Italian champions. His experience was required to help guide PSG to the Champions League trophy.
He shared the number one spot with fellow goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. According to Jonathan Johnson of ESPN, this was to keep fresh legs in both keepers.
Buffon’s debut saw instant success. He kept a clean sheet during a 4-0 win over Monaco in the Trophee des Champions.
Despite his scintillating start, Buffon did have to wait for his Champions League debut with PSG. This was due to receiving a three-match ban with Juventus.
The 41-year-old successfully helped guide PSG through the group stages of the Champions League. However, it was yet another failed season in the competition for PSG, as they were knocked out by Manchester United in the round of 16.
Why is Buffon Returning to Juventus?
The return of Buffon will certainly mean he will see out his career where he is a club legend. During his 17 seasons with the Italian champions, he made 656 appearances and won every domestic trophy available to him in Italy.
However, the Champions League is the only trophy he is still yet to win. He has finished runner-up three times in his career, most recently in 2017.
His status at the club does not mean an instant return to the first team. He is likely to play second fiddle to current Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. However, according to Talksport, he is wanting an eight-game clause in his contract to surpass the current Serie A appearance record.
