Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Benfica winger Joao Felix for £113 million in the biggest transfer of the summer so far. Details of Felix’s contract, such as length, are yet to be disclosed.

Joao Felix – Career So Far
The Portuguese international star is a graduate of the Benfica academy. He made 30 appearances for Benfica B in LigaPro, the second division in Portugal. Felix scored seven goals during his two seasons playing for the reserve side.
It was the beginning of last season that he made his first-team debut at the beginning of this season for Benfica, the 19-year-old has become one of the most sought after youngsters in Europe. Europe’s elite have been chasing Benfica for his services.
However, it has been a sensation debut season for Joao Felix. He scored 18 goals and registered eight assists; unsurprising that he has received so much interest.
His goals contributed to Benfica’s success during the 2018/19 campaign. They won the Primeira liga for a record 37th time, finishing two points ahead of rivals Porto. Furthermore, they reached the semi-finals of both domestic cup competition as well as the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
Felix raised eyebrows across Europe when he scored a hat-trick in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt. As a result, Felix became the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the competition.
Felix’s successes were rewarded by a call-up to the Portuguese national squad for the UEFA Nations League. He made his debut during their 1-0 win over Switzerland in the semi-finals.
The hefty price tag is like to put immense pressure on the 19-year-old. However, he has already shown he can deal with pressure at the highest level, especially in Europe. As a result, fans across Europe will be keeping an eye on how the 19-year-old succeeds.
