Quick Turnaround

At 13:20 pm on July 28, Forest announced the departure of Martin O’Neill after just five months in charge. The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor reported that Lamouchi was in the frame to take the job, but nobody would have assumed that it would be confirmed just half an hour later.

Taylor understood that a number of key players at the club had turned against O’Neill, perhaps to do with his assistant, Roy Keane, leaving the club last week. Lamouchi will now undergo the task of getting those players on his side quickly as Forest aim to improve on their ninth-place finish from last season.

Career So Far

Lamouchi started his managerial career with the Ivory Coast national team, a position he held for two years between 2012 and 2014. He led them to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as the top-ranked side in Africa, as well as the quarter-finals at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

His next appointment was with Qatari side El Jaish. There, he won the Qatari cup and reached the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League.

His most recent job was with Ligue 1 outfit Rennes. He took the club from the relegation places to Europa League qualification in 2017/18.

Lamouchi also had a distinguished playing career, featuring over 470 times for clubs such as Monaco, Parma, Inter Milan and Marseille, plus 12 caps for the French national team.
