Nottingham Forest have confirmed that manager Martin O’Neill has left the club after just five months in charge. O’Neill’s assistant, Roy Keane, also left Forest last week in an attempt to resurrect his own managerial career.

The Tenure of Martin O’Neill
The 67-year-old was appointed by Forest in January to replace the outgoing Aitor Karanka. O’Neill, a Forest legend in his playing days, guided the club to ninth place in the Championship, but The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor understands that a number of key players at the club have turned against the Northern Irishman.
In an extremely short statement on the club website, Nottingham Forest said: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that manager Martin O’Neill has left the club.
“The club would like to thank Martin for all his efforts during his time at The City Ground and wish him well for the future.”
What Next?
Taylor’s report in the Guardian suggests that Sabri Lamouchi, a former France international whose last managerial job was at Rennes, is in line to replace Martin O’Neill.
Lamouchi’s first job as a manager was with the Ivory Coast national team, a position he held for two years between 2012 and 2014. He then left to spend three years at Qatari side El Jaish before securing the post at Rennes.
For O’Neill, it’s unclear what could follow. He left a successful stint with the Republic of Ireland national team to return to Forest, so to have that taken away after only five months must be a big hit for the former Sunderland and Aston Villa boss.
In total, he oversaw 19 games at the City ground, winning and losing eight each along with securing three draws.
