League One side Portsmouth have signed Norwich City centre-back Sean Raggett on a season-long loan. The deal includes no option for the Canaries to recall the defender throughout the season.

Career So Far

Raggett came through the youth ranks at Gillingham but failed to make a senior appearance for them. This instead came at non-league outfit Dover Athletic, where he scored eight goals in 106 appearances.

During his time at Dover, he spent time out on loan at Sittingbourne, Herne Bay and Whitstable Town.

In 2016, Raggett was signed by National League side Lincoln City, and he played a huge part in their promotion back to the Football League and their astonishing FA Cup run. The Imps made it through to the quarter-finals having started the competition in the fourth qualifying round.

They only made it through that after beating Guiseley in a replay, but went on to topple Altrincham, Oldham Athletic, Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion before Raggett’s late header secured a 1-0 win for Lincoln away at Premier League side Burnley. They came unstuck in the next round, though, losing 5-0 away at Arsenal.

After just one permanent season at Sincil Bank, he moved to Championship side Norwich City, but returned to Lincoln on a season-long loan straight away.

He then spent last season on loan at Rotherham United but made only seven league appearances.

What They Said

Speaking to Portsmouth’s official website, manager Kenny Jackett said: “The additions of Sean and Paul Downing have strengthened our defensive options and give us good competition in that area.

“He’s played all of his career as a left-sided centre-half and is someone I’ve followed since his non-league days.

“We’re delighted to bring him to Pompey and very much look forward to working with him next season.

“He’s a very determined person and is just coming into his prime. He’ll be looking at this as a big opportunity to progress.”
