Kieran Agard Signs New Deal at MK Dons

Kieran Agard

MK Dons striker Kieran Agard has signed a new deal at the club. The striker, 29, was the Dons’ top scorer with 20 goals as they secured automatic promotion from League Two on the final day of the season.

Speculation

Agard was out on contract at the end of this season, his third at the club after signing from Bristol City. It was widely reported that he would be leaving the club, with Gillingham understood to have been the destination for him, according to Luke Cawdell of Kent Online.

That speculation has remained fresh right up until this point, but the Dons keeping hold of their top scorer and Player’s Player of the Year shows big ambition from the club in not allowing their prized assets to be taken.

What They Said

Speaking to the MK Dons website, Agard said: “At the end of the season, I went home and had a rest and spoke to my family. In the end, we couldn’t wait to get back here.

“As a Club, we’re moving in the right direction which was evident last season. It’s something I want to be a part of. I thoroughly enjoyed last season and I want to have more times like that here – I’m looking to build on last season.

“I’m thankful to the fans that have supported me. Hopefully, I can give them some more to sing about.”

More to Follow?

MK Dons confirmed in their retained list last month that only Agard and fellow striker Chuks Aneke would be offered new deals out of those whose contracts were expiring.

With Agard now signed up, it remains to be seen whether the side can keep hold of their two stars from the promotion-winning campaign.

The 25-year-old looked to be on his way out last summer. However, he stayed with the club and slowly repaired a fractured relationship with the MK Dons fans. This summer, it’s reported by Will Rooney at the Portsmouth News that he has been a target for Portsmouth.

If, though, the Dons can convince him to sign an extension like Agard, it would show they mean serious business.
