Welsh defender Regan Poole has signed for League One side MK Dons following his release from Premier League club Manchester United. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Newport County and was part of the side that reached the League Two play-off final, narrowly losing out to Tranmere Rovers. Poole becomes the Dons’ fifth signing of the transfer window, joining Hiram Boateng, Brennan Dickenson, Joe Mason and Jordan Bowery.

Career So Far
Poole, born in Cardiff, started out at the Cardiff City academy but joined the set-up at Newport County as a scholar in 2014. He then had a trial at Manchester United before making his senior debut for the Exiles, starting a League Two match against Shrewsbury Town at just 16 years and 94 days old.
In September 2015, Newport confirmed that Poole had joined United, but was mainly used in the youth and reserve sides. He was, though, included in the Red Devils’ squad for the knockout phase of their 2015/16 Europa League campaign. He was an unused substitute in the round of 32 first leg against FC Midtjylland but made his debut in the reverse fixture as a late substitute for Ander Herrera.
Poole joined up with Northampton Town on loan for the 2017/18 season, making 22 appearances for the Cobblers as they were relegated from League One.
His final stint before joining MK Dons came back at Newport County on loan as the Exiles defied all the odds to reach the play-offs. He played a starring role in the final against Tranmere but eventually came out on the losing side after a late winner from Connor Jennings.

In his first interview with the club, Poole told the MK Dons website: “I’m delighted. As soon as I heard that the club was interested in me, I was very excited and wanted to get the deal done.
“I spoke to the manager and he really interested me in the way he wants to work. I’ve played against the club a few times and played here at the stadium and everything about the place just interested me. As soon as I knew they wanted me it was a no brainer.
“This is a new stage of my career and I can’t wait to get started. It’s time to settle down, play some football and help this club be successful.”
