Last Word On Football’s Football Transfer News looks at the latest news and rumours from around world football. In this edition, we look at the next step in the career of Arjen Robben, a new signing for Bayer Leverkusen, whether Antoine Griezmann will move to the Catalan coast and the latest developments in the Adrien Rabiot saga.
Latest on Arjen Robben, Demirbay, Griezmann and Rabiot
Robben to Portugal?
In what appears to be an open letter towards Bayern Munich and Netherlands legend Arjen Robben, Sport Bild columnist Raimund Hinko seems to suggest that Portuguese side Benfica could be a potential destination for the winger when he leaves Bayern at the end of this season.
A further report in Bavarian Football Works suggests that Robben made a good impression on the bosses at Benfica in the two games played between the sides in this year’s Champions League, and it also reports that first talks have already been held between the two parties.
Bavarian Football Works’ report also notes that Robben has received enquiries from clubs in his native Holland such as FC Groningen, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax, while clubs as far away as FC Tokyo and Toronto FC are reportedly interested.
Leverkusen Complete Demirbay Signing
Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen has completed the signing of defensive midfielder Kerem Demirbay from league rivals Hoffenheim.

The Germany international has signed a deal until 2024 with Leverkusen and upon the move he told the club’s website: “The next step after three really great years at TSG. Bayer 04 have always played attractive, attacking football. That style suits me and I’m really looking forward to being part of this team.”
Griezmann Barca Bound?
According to reports from Juan Jiminez in AS, Barcelona could make a move for Atletico Madrid frontman Antoine Griezmann after missing out on him last summer.
Griezmann’s buy-out clause reportedly dropped from €200 million to around €130 million on July 1, but Barca can expect competition from other powerful clubs this time around.
With the humiliation of their Champions League exit to Liverpool, though, Barca could be prepared to pull out all the stops to get their long-term target.
Clubs Battle For Rabiot
After Real Madrid and Barcelona dropped their interest, Metro, via Calciomercato, are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race alongside Juventus to sign Adrien Rabiot.
The 24-year-old has been shunned from the first team at Paris Saint-Germain after refusing to sign a contract extension – something he was offered back in December.
Metro’s report adds that Spurs are willing to break their wage structure in order to sign the Frenchman. Harry Kane is currently the club’s top earner, on around £200,000.
