Oxford United pair, Curtis Nelson and Rob Hall, are to be offered a new contract, the club have confirmed. Both will be out of contract in the summer, and U’s boss, Karl Robinson, is determined to keep hold of the duo.
Two Players to be Offered New Contracts at Oxford
Nelson, Hall to Extend Oxford Stays
The club won’t release their retained list until after the final game at Luton Town this Saturday, but Hall and Nelson will be offered new deals.
It had been looking likely for some time that defender Nelson would depart in the summer. But the Oxford boss has tried to sway the former Plymouth Argyle man to stay at the Kassam Stadium.
Robinson said: “We had a chat with him yesterday.”
“He’s going to be offered another contract and there will be a window of opportunity where that becomes null and void in some ways.
Robinson, who had stripped the centre-back of his captaincy earlier in the season, added; “In the last couple of months he’s been one of the better players and has stood up to the task of when we really needed him he was there.
“No-one can question how he’s finished here if he does decide to move on.”
As with Hall, the winger has only featured three times this season due to injury. But, as he has previously stated, the 25-year-old would love to stay at the club.
It looks likely that the former MK Dons man will need to take a pay cut in order to stay. But this seems a realistic option for both parties due to the injuries the winger has suffered.
Robinson said: “He will be offered a contract, but as you can imagine it’s not what he would have been before.
“He knows and was very receptive to that.”
