It has certainly not been a dull start to the season for Tottenham, as the North London outfit are never out of the headlines. Admittedly, the majority of the column inches have been created due to off-pitch issues, with the delays in completing their new stadium continuing to frustrate them.
A Season-Defining Period Awaits Tottenham Hotspur
Add in the fact that the club decided against buying any new players in the summer, much to the discontent of their fanbase, and you would almost forget that they currently find themselves lying fourth in the Premier League table.
This may not be the Tottenham we know and love, as the football that they have produced so far this season has not been the same free-flowing product that we have been used to over the past couple of campaigns. However, that doesn’t necessarily tell us the whole story either.
At the same time, there is one important difference: having the ability to grind results out by winning ugly, and this is something they may well need over the next few weeks as a number of huge clashes await them across multiple fronts.
A quick look at the Redbet sportsbook shows that Tottenham are currently at odds of 40/1 to win the Premier League this season, a price that perhaps suggests they are the outsiders when looking at who you would consider bona fide title contenders.
That said, they can just as easily shorten those odds should they manage to earn the bragging rights that come with going up against both Chelsea and Arsenal. If Tottenham can pick up maximum points from these two upcoming fixtures, then it will change the complexion of this season’s title race.
That latter point is especially noteworthy when you consider that Mauricio Pochettino’s men have played double the amount of away games in the Premier League than they have at home this season, a statistic that could stand them in good stead for the second half of the campaign.
One of the main reasons that they have finished so strongly in the Premier League over the past few years is the fact that they have managed to go up through the gears in terms of form once the long winter nights come around.
If they can repeat that this season, while coupling a run of good form with the additional home games that they will then play, then it sets them up very nicely for a title tilt once more. Although this could be negated if they still have to fulfil their league fixtures at Wembley.
The race to build the new stadium is one that is now taking on even extra importance. If the club can start 2019 in their new home, then it will undoubtedly give the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli a shot in the arm for the final new months of the campaign.
With a Carabao Cup quarter-final and the aim to secure a Champions League Round of 16 berth also on the horizon, it presents a very hectic and almost season-defining schedule for Tottenham. If results go their way, then the dream of a first trophy since 2008 all of a sudden becomes a much more realistic hope.
