It has been a slow start to the season for AFC Wimbledon. Three wins from their opening 13 fixtures have left the Wombles one place above the drop-zone.
With results not improving, there appears to be unrest amongst supporters as manager Neal Ardley is not endearing himself. Performances on the pitch have seen fans voice their displeasure at the Dons boss.
However, considering the club’s circumstances, the question is will AFC Wimbledon sack Neal Ardley?
Will AFC Wimbledon Sack Neal Ardley?
Poor Start to the Season
Following their survival last season, this is now AFC Wimbledon’s third season in the third-tier.
However, this season has started in a fashion far from ideal for the London club. Winning just three out of their opening 13 league games, Ardley’s side sit one place above the drop-zone. Leaving some supporters to question Ardley’s management.
Successive defeats against Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth would not have done Ardley any favours.
Even at this point in the season, it could prove to be a long campaign for the Wombles, one which Ardley may not see out.
Why Ardley Might Not Go
Neal Ardley has a very strong case as to why he might not be sacked. The long-term AFC Wimbledon manager certainly has a strong backing, especially if his credentials are anything to go by.
In-charge since October 2012, Neal Ardley has maintained the club’s Football League status. Furthermore, in 2016, he guided the club to League One via the League Two play-off final.
Since their promotion, Ardley has done a brilliant job of keeping them up. He has capably kept the Wombles up for the past few seasons, even with similar starts to the season such as their current one.
A Result Against Blackpool is Vital
This weekend, AFC Wimbledon travel to Lancashire as they visit Blackpool. Needless to say, a positive result is vital for Ardley.
At this point, Blackpool currently sit 14th in League One. They have only lost once this season, however, the Seasiders have won just three out of their opening 11 fixtures.
Furthermore, they boast the joint-best defensive record in the third-tier, conceding just nine goals so far.
It could prove to be a long trip north for the Wombles, but it might prove to be Ardley’s final game in-charge as AFC Wimbledon manager.
