Looking For the Form to Continue
As well as their five games unbeaten in the league, as well as one cup game before tasting defeat against Bournemouth, the Dons have a good record against their opponents for this weekend.
Swindon last defeated the Dons back in 2012 when they were 1-0 home victors thanks to Matt Ritchie’s goal, but the fixture hasn’t been kind to them since. A win and a draw for the Dons ensued before they went on a run of four straight wins against the Robins, which included a later winner from George Baldock in 2014 and a 3-0 win in the League One promotion race of 2014/15.
The two sides didn’t meet in 2017/18 as Swindon tasted relegation to League Two in the season before, while the Dons were handed the same fate in the last campaign.
Swindon have been held to draws in their last two games, both away from home, which has left them eighth in the table. A favourable result could mathematically seem them replace the Dons in second-place, while Paul Tisdale’s side will be hoping to displace Lincoln City at the top of the table.
Key Men
Swindon Town
Phil Brown’s side boast a number of players who would not look out of place in League One, especially in their attacking ranks. However, it’s one of their midfielders who is doing the business so far in terms of finding the net.
Michael Doughty, who joined the club from Peterborough in the summer, has five goals in five games so far. He has made his mark as somewhat of a penalty specialist, scoring two in stoppage time against Macclesfield to seal a 3-2 win for his side.
As well as his goalscoring ability, Doughty also possesses ability at a higher level having played for Peterborough in League One and QPR in the Championship. The Dons midfield will have to keep him quiet if they are to have a good chance of taking the three points from this game.
MK Dons
Paul Tisdale made a number of changes for his side’s cup tie against Bournemouth, one of which was the addition of Osman Sow to the substitutes bench.
The Swedish striker scored only twice last season, which was a massive disappointment. However, the team always looked for capable of scoring when Sow was on the pitch, meaning that fans were never quite ready to give up on their marquee signing.
Sow entered the fray against Bournemouth despite many believing that he would be departing the club on loan. He almost provided the Dons with a consolation when he curled wide of Artur Boruc’s post and looked to link up well with those around him.
Whether Tisdale is ready to commit Sow to the team once more cannot be decided after one substitute appearance. However, if he is keen to revitalise the striker’s career at the club, he will need to start playing him in important fixtures such as this one.
Prediction
MK Dons have looked solid so far in this campaign, conceding just two league goals in five games. However, Swindon are unbeaten at home and look like a difficult side to break down, something which the Dons attack has struggled to do to other sides so far.
It looks set to be another close game for the visitors, but their overall quality should just about see them over the line.
Prediction: Swindon Town 0-1 MK Dons
