Wolves were left to rue the chances they missed after losing 2-0 at the King Power Stadium. Wolves will feel hard done by having a majority of possession, with 57% and having 11 shots at goal, registering three on target, against the ten men of Leicester. This result will surely ease some of the negativity around Leicester’s under fire manager, Claude Puel.

Leicester Have The Bragging Rights
Leicester have registered their first three points of the season in a hard-fought game against Midland rivals Wolves. In only the two clubs’ third-ever meeting in the Premier League, Leicester will feel they had a bit of luck on their side with how it could have turned out at the King Power Stadium.
How It Could Have Started For Wolves
It could have been a different result for Wolves, starting the game the strongest of the two teams. The game burst straight into action in the third minute when Joao Moutinho received the ball on the edge of the box and hit a shot which struck the cross bar. From a short goal kick, Wolves closed the Leicester defence down to nick the ball with Raul Jimenez keeping the ball in touch and playing it across the box for Matt Doherty to get off a shot only for it to be blocked by Jonny Evans on the line.
On the 20-minute mark, Leicester were thanking their lucky stars when Jimenez picked up the ball outside the box and stuck the ball at goal only to be denied by the post yet again.
Leicester Have The Luck
Eventually, it was Leicester who grabbed the breakthrough after riding their luck. Breaking on the right hand side with Marc Albrighton, who whipped a cross in, only for Wolves defender Doherty to put it in his own goal, putting Leicester 1-0 up. Just after the half hour mark, Leicester fans had their heart in their mouths once again when Neves went down under the accidental elbow of James Maddison; nothing came of it. Leicester then doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when a loose ball ended up falling to James Maddison on the edge of the box, opening up a shot at goal and with a bit of a deflection from Conor Coady the ball sneaked into the bottom right hand corner of Patricio’s goal.
Vardy Sees Red
Jamie Vardy picked up his third red card of his Premier League career. Getting frustrated by not really being in the game, he lunged for the ball but despite getting a touch on the ball, Vardy’s studs were showing, which connected with Doherty, resulting in a straight red card which now puts him out of the next three games for Leicester.
Dominating Second Half Performance
Wolves began the second half by making two changes; record signing Adama Traore, making his debut, and Leo Bonatini replaced the struggling Diogo Jota and Helder Costa. Traore made an immediate impact by getting past Ricardo to the byline and crossing the ball over for Jimenez to control it and get a shot away, only to be blocked.
Wolves then nearly got a bit of luck when defender Ben Chilwell nudged the ball past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel but Jimenez couldn’t reach it. Schmeichel had to make a smart save at the near post, denying Jimenez after Moutinho split the defence with a lovely pass.
Leicester nearly put the game to bed completely after Coady badly mis-controlled the ball. Maddison nipped in to steal but couldn’t keep it in play. Leo Bonatini will be hoping to bag a goal soon after not scoring this calendar year. He wasted two great chances both after Traore made easy work of the defence to get it to the striker. With the game slipping from Wolves grasp they hit the post for the third time when Jimenez dinked the ball over to Jonny for the defender to hit the outside of the post.
Claude Puel Lives to Fight Another Day
After this win, Claude Puel’s job is safe for the meantime. Puel will be hoping this result can ease some tension around the King Power Stadium. This win should give the squad some momentum going into their next three games against Southampton, Liverpool and Bournemouth.
