MK Dons have added Stuart Moore to their squad to make their tenth signing of the summer transfer window. The goalkeeper joins on an undisclosed-length contract from Swindon, while a compensation fee is to be decided between the two clubs as Moore is an out-of-contract under-24 player.
MK Dons Sign Stuart Moore
Moore, brother of Sheffield United keeper Simon, came through the youth ranks at both Portsmouth and Reading, having been born on the Isle of Wight. He never made a senior appearance for either, instead having seven loan spells away from Reading as a youngster.
Five of these loans were to non-league teams including Bashley and Basingstoke Town. However, the latter two were to clubs in the Football League. Moore spent part of 2016 with Peterborough United, making four appearances, and then had the back-end of the 2016/17 season with Luton Town, where he appeared eight times.
He made a permanent move away from Reading last season, signing for National League side Barrow. However, after just six months with the Cumbrians, Moore left by mutual consent having played 18 times.
He was picked up by League Two side Swindon following his departure but chose not to extend this contract any further once the summer came.
Where Will He Fit In?
With two goalkeepers already on the books at Stadium MK, this may seem like a strange transfer, especially with some promising youngsters coming through. However, Moore is unlikely to challenge first-choice Lee Nicholls for a place in the team straight away.
Instead, it seems as though he will battle it out with Wieger Sietsma for a place on the bench. When given an opportunity last season, Sietsma failed to impress, so having somebody there to challenge him may give him the needed boost to perform.
The Opinions
Speaking to iFollow MK Dons following the move, Moore said:
“I’m very pleased to be here. It’s nice to get it done before the season starts and now I’m very much looking forward to getting going.
“Everyone knows that MK Dons is a massive Club and it’s great to be a part of that. Speaking to the manager and to Mel [Gwinnett] about the ambition of the club and hunger to do well and succeed – I want to be part of that.”
