Why Spurs Fans Must Have Faith In Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino

Now in his fifth season in charge at Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino is looking towards a huge future for the club. With the new stadium shortly on the way, the club are looking ever more prosperous.

At this point in Pochettino’s tenure, silverware is a frustrating thought for Spurs fans, though. But despite the lack of silverware, there are plenty of reasons why fans should not potentially lose faith in Pochettino.

Why Spurs Fans Must Have Faith In Pochettino

Time is of the Essence

Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor was this side Mauricio Pochettino built. It was not too long ago that resources at Spurs were minimal, and lacked qualities to even finish in the top four.

In his first season in-charge, Pochettino inherited a disjointed squad, which scrapped a sixth-place finish in the previous campaign.

The philosophy brought in by Pochettino has taken time for Spurs to adapt to. Nonetheless, the club have found great success under his work, uncovering some of the most promising young players in the Premier League, in addition to an efficient approach to their football.

In what is a relatively young squad, there is a lot of learning and maturing to be done. But in previous seasons, Spurs’ young side have more often been the closest challengers to the eventual Premier League champions.

It took Sir Alex Ferguson four seasons to win his first trophy at Manchester United. So with that in mind, the time for silverware to be won by Spurs may well be on the way.

A Project in Progress

Now in their third consecutive season in the UEFA Champions League, things are certainly, slowly, coming together for Spurs. Finishing in the top four for four consecutive seasons is truly a credit to the work Mauricio Pochettino has done.

While the next step in the project would ideally be some silverware, one would have to believe that Pochettino may be thinking about things more methodically.

At points, the Spurs squad’s young age average has come under scrutiny and branded as inexperienced. For example, their 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.

There is no question that Spurs are a very attractive club to sign for. But the need for a proven world-class player is there. That is, if the club are willing to explore new ground in their wage budget, in order to attract players.

With recent links to Anthony Martial, a player of calibre would certainly be of a great benefit to Spurs.

Already proving they can go toe to toe with the biggest sides in Europe, it is now a matter of establishing themselves in that bracket.

Stars For the Future

What more can possibly be said about the young players at Spurs? Some of the brightest prospects have been on show at the club, and have gone up against the likes of Real Madrid and proven their worth.

Prior to being sidelined with an injury, midfielder Harry Winks took his opportunity and turned it into a place in the starting-11. The 22-year-old missed out on the World Cup due to injury but will return to Spurs with a lot of promise.

Colombian Davinson Sanchez wonderfully partnered Jan Vertonghen at the back, for the most part of last season. Also aged just 22-years-old, he is a world-class defender waiting to unravel.

Furthermore, youth striker Reo Griffiths has been talked up a lot in recent months. Scoring 30 goals in Spurs under-18’s season, he is another academy talent that is catching the eye at the club.
