Tom Ince Leaves Huddersfield Town and Signs For Stoke City

Tom Ince

Tom Ince has left Premier League club Huddersfield Town after a year and has moved to Stoke City. The 26-year-old completed the move for an initial fee of£10 million which could potentially rise to£12 million.

The versatile player dropped down the pecking order with the Terriers as head coach David Wagner made more summer signings to strengthen the squad.

Stoke City Sign Tom Ince From Huddersfield Town

Tom Ince made 33 appearances for the Terriers in their first season in the Premier League. Having being purchased from Derby County, the plan was to develop the Englishman with another shot at the top flight.

During his tenure with the Terriers, Ince only netted twice, part of the problem Huddersfield have looked to address during this window. Ince nearly always played the full 90 minutes where he was in the starting line-up.

Although scoring a vital goal for Huddersfield last season, Ince became surplus to requirements at the John Smith’s Stadium. Stoke City jumped at the chance to bring the 26-year-old to the bet365 stadium.

What This Means For Tom Ince

A return to the Championship will be good for Ince. This will guarantee him first-team football, as he has been brought into Stoke City as a replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri.

When Ince was at Derby County, he excelled at the Championship level. Moving to Stoke will give him the opportunity to replicate that. Regular first-team football is what every player wants. Knowing that slipping down the order at the Terriers would reduce his game time, the move is sensible for Ince.

What Does This Mean For Stoke City?

Having Ince in the squad brings versatility in several positions. The hunger to play and eagerness to score is good for Stoke. Ince has experience of playing at this level and brings this to his new teammates.

The skill on the ball as well as his pace and acceleration is what Stoke needed. The signing of Ince is a good move by Gary Rowett to strengthen and get ready for the new season.
