Tottenham’s lack of transfer activity has left many fans both disappointed and concerned. With under three weeks remaining of the transfer window, Tottenham are yet to make a signing. Only Jack Grealish has been reported to have received concrete interest. Wingers Wilfred Zaha and Malcolm have also emerged as potential transfer targets, highlighting the desire for a direct, pacey winger. With Zaha rumoured to be valued at £70m and Malcolm headed to Barcelona, both targets may be out of reach. Tottenham may not need to look far for their winger, however. With a pre-season under his belt, as well as a greater understanding of English football, Lucas Moura could have a key role to play this season.
Lucas Moura Could be Like a New Signing
Lucas Looks Promising in First Season
Upon completing a £25m move from Paris Saint-Germain in January, Lucas spent most of the season on the bench. He managed just two Premier League starts, playing most of his football in the FA Cup. Despite a lack of game time, the attacking winger certainly looked lively when given the opportunity. A goal and two assists in two games against Rochdale highlighted the impact he could make. Lucas also impressed in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Key Player For PSG
Lucas was an integral part of PSG’s team prior to the signings of Neymar and Kylian M’bappe. He scored an impressive 12 league goals, assisting five throughout the 2016/17 campaign. Only Edison Cavani was directly involved in more goals. Lucas also created more key chances per game than anyone else in the 2016/2017 Champions League. This shows his capabilities and is a potent reminder of what Lucas could offer next season.
Pre-season an Opportunity For Lucas Moura
A full pre-season with Tottenham will certainly boost Lucas Moura’s chances of securing more game time come the start of the season. Lucas has already scored in a 6-0 victory against Southend.
Additionally, with a substantial proportion of the starting line-up absent from Tottenham’s pre-season tour of America, Lucas will have the opportunity to shine. With Spurs crying out at times for genuine pace and width, Tottenham will hope this is an opportunity Lucas grabs with both hands.
Lucas to be an Important Part of the Squad
New signings are irrefutably needed to keep up with Tottenham’s Premier League rivals. Tottenham will, however, hope 25-year-old Lucas Moura will be able to become a key member of the squad in his first full season at the club.
