France Beat Peru as Kylian Mbappe Nets Winner

France edged out as 1-0 winners on Thursday afternoon as they headed into the next round of the tournament, although the contest did not offer much. The French appeared to be happy to just get a goal and win the game.

Kylian Mbappe Gets First World Cup Goal

The former World Cup winners were expected to be favourites for a result in this match, however, Peru did not make it easy for them.

The victory for Les Blues means they qualify from Group C before they have to face Denmark in the final game. The South Americans will be heading home from the tournament following two defeats.

Peru started the game in fine form, making a number of darting runs down the right wing and causing a number of problems. However, they failed to make a number of their chances count as France eased into the game.

The Europeans did start quickly as well and continued to pepper the Peruvian’s goal, however, they failed to make the most of their early chances.

Kylian Mbappe Seals the Victory With the Easiest Goal of His Career

They eventually found the breakthrough when Kylian Mbappe scored the easiest goal of his young career.

The 19-year-old latched onto a well-blocked effort from Olivier Giroud and tapped into an empty net, giving one of the tournament favourites the lead.

Peru Dominate as France Happy to Sit Back

The second half restarted with a double substitution from Peru and it appeared to give them some life. The South Americans took the initiative and started to dominate large parts of the game.

They started to test Hugo Lloris but found it difficult to hit the target. The Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, who made his 100th appearance for France, was well-worked in the second 45 minutes and saw a Pedro Aquino effort hit the post.

As the second half went on, Les Blues appeared to look happy with a one-goal victory and looked content with wasting as much time as possible.

Substitutions took a lot longer than they should have done, whilst Giroud was happy enough to take the ball into the corner flag with 15 minutes left to play.

What’s Next For the Two Nations?

France will look to top Group C when they face Denmark, whilst Peru will play their final game of this World Cup against Australia.
