West Ham sign sunken Swan Fabianski for £7M
West Ham have made their second purchase in the last few days signing Swansea goalkeeper Lucasz Fabianski in a £7m deal.
Polish international Fabianski, 33, has signed a 3-year contract with the East London Club. He will be joining freshly recruited Issa Diop, who is making the move from Toulouse for a £22m fee. Swansea reportedly turned down an initial bid, but were resigned to losing the player.
Fabianski, has played for Swansea since arriving from Arsenal in 2014. He told the club he wanted to leave the Liberty Stadium following their relegation from the Premier League.
No doubt relieved to still be playing Premiership football, he announced today;
“I’m really happy to be joining at such an exciting time here. I will do my best on and off the pitch to help the team to achieve the best results possible. I can’t wait to start this new chapter of my career.”
Fabianski, who was Swansea’s Player of the Year last season, is in on duty in Russia for the World Cup but didn’t feature in Poland’s 2-1 defeat by Senegal on Tuesday.
Hammers needed a new Hart
The Hammers have been searching for a replacement for Joe Hart, since his loan spell from Premier League champions Manchester City came to an end.
West Ham’s new director of football Mario Husillos spoke of the club’s delight at signing the Polish keeper. He told BBC Sport;
“Lukasz is an experienced and established Premier League goalkeeper, with great quality. He has shown this at both domestic and international level. He fits perfectly the mould of the modern goalkeeper, with excellent agility, presence and distribution, and will bring strong competition to the position.”
There has been much change at the London Stadium as Manuel Pellegrini re-builds the club in an attempt to improve last season’s dismal performance in the Premier League.
His aim will be to gain Europa League status at least, and has been given the green light by West Ham to make the necessary changes. Changes which appear to happening thick and fast in East London.
