Leeds United have sacked manager Paul Heckingbottom, after just four months incharge at Elland Road. The former Barnsley boss won only four out of 16 games in charge. The Whites finished 13th in the Championship.
Paul Heckingbottom Sacked After Just Four Months
For a fifth-successive season, Leeds United will start another campaign with a new manager. The next appointed manager at Elland Road will be the club’s 10th manager since 2014.
Heckingbottom was appointed Leeds United manager on February 6th, just days after signing an extension at former club Barnsley. The 40-year-old’s first game in charge was a 2-1 defeat to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.
Winning just four and losing eight games, ultimately saw Leeds finish 13th in the Championship.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Managing Director Angus Kinnear said: “On behalf of the Board of Directors at Leeds United I would like to thank Paul for the commitment and passion he has demonstrated since he joined the club earlier this year.”
Who’s Next?
Over the last eight seasons, only Garry Monk has lasted an entire season as Leeds United manager.
Heckingbottom’s departure rings the same tune for Leeds fans, as this appears to be a familiar occurrence.
The same question continues to come up for Leeds United once more: who will be next to take the Elland Road hot seat?
Angus Kinnear also said on the club’s website: “Our objective is to bring in a Head Coach with more experience who can help us reach the goals we have talked about since we became custodians of the club last summer. We are confident of making a quick appointment and we thank our fans for their continued support.”
Biesla to Leeds?
Argentine Marcelo Bielsa is reported to be one of the favourites to take the Leeds United vacancy.
The 62-year-old has managed the likes of Marseille, Lille and internationally with Chile and Argentina.
His last job was in Ligue 1 with Lille, as he was sacked last December. Prior to his short-tenure in France, he spent just two days in charge of Serie A side Lazio.
