Football Transfer News: Latest on Alderweireld, Pastore, Darmian and Thiago
Toby Alderweireld
According to The Sun, Manchester United are willing to bid £50 million for Tottenham Hotspurs’ Toby Alderweireld. Over the past few seasons, the Belgian has made a name for himself as the best centre back in the Premier League. However, this season, Alderweireld has not featured much due to refusing to sign a new contract at Tottenham. The defender is unhappy with his wages as he feels he should be earning a lot more. In addition, Manchester United are interested in the troubled star and it would be no problem for the Mancunian giants to pay Alderweireld’s contract demands.
Javier Pastore
Sky sources understand that West Ham United are in talks to sign Paris St-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore. West Ham are reportedly agreeing a deal that could be worth up to £17.5 million. The former Palermo playmaker has scored 45 goals in 265 appearances in Ligue 1, hence he would be an exciting signing for Hammers fans. The 28-year-old would be new boss, Manuel Pellegrini’s first big name signing for the East Londoners. Pastore has one year left on his current contract. Furthermore, PSG are thought to be wanting rid of the midfielder as they attempt to meet financial fair play regulations.
Matteo Darmian
ESPN are reporting that Juventus are in talks with Manchester United over versatile fullback Matteo Darmian. The former Torino man has failed to settle down a regular spot at Old Trafford. Having only just made five Premier League starts this season, the Italian international feels he needs regular football. Conversely, Juventus are willing to provide this due to Stephan Lichtsteiner expected to leave on a free. The fullback only has a year left on his contract but United could activate a clause that will add on a further year to his contract. Consequentially this means United have the upper hand in these talks. Juventus value the player at £12.7 million, however, United may demand more for the Italian.
Thiago Alcantara
Reports are emerging in Germany that Thiago Alcantara wants to leave Bayern Munich. The midfielder joined the Bavarian giants from Barcelona in 2013. However, the 27-year-old has had an injury-riddled time in the Bundesliga. It is thought that Barcelona are monitoring his situation. Should the player leave Munich, there would be no shortage of clubs looking to acquire the player.
Moreover, a return to Barca would be more than welcome, however, Thiago was also in talks with Manchester United before he joined Bayern Munich. With Jose Mourinho looking to bolster his squad as he prepares for a title challenge, Thiago would be a capable option for United. Furthermore, across town, Pep Guardiola may wish to bring his former player to Manchester City. With Yaya Toure leaving City, Guardiola is looking to bring in a midfielder. Consequentially, Thiago fits the bill for everything Guardiola looks for in a midfielder.
