Cast your mind back to the final day of the 2013/14 season. Birmingham City were on the brink of relegation to League One. However, a late Paul Caddis goal kept the Blues in the Championship, but since then, their luck has been few and far between.
The days under Gary Rowett are a distant memory, as his tenure at the club ended unexpectedly. Since his dismissal, Blues fan’s relationship with the board has only soured.
On the pitch, results have not materialized. Propping up the rest of the Championship, City have only won four times this season. Furthermore, they have yet to away from home this season.
After five years of little to no success in the second-tier, one has to wonder; are the Blues finally out of luck? Are they destined to drop into the third-tier?

Following the sacking of Harry Redknapp, Steve Cotterill was appointed manager of the club on October 2nd. Despite Cotterill’s experience, could this job too much for the former Blues player?
Taking charge for just 11 games now, Steve Cotterill has only won two and drawn two in the process. This record reflects the Blues current position, as they sit rooted to the bottom of the Championship.
With an already monumental task on his hands, it would appear as if Cotterill has bitten off more than he can chew.

The festive period is vital for most clubs, none more so than Birmingham City this season. Staring down the barrel of relegation to the third-tier, Steve Cotterill will have his hands full.
Birmingham are away to Sunderland this Saturday in what shall be a six-pointer for both sides. 11 years ago this was a Premier League six-pointer, now both sides are slugging it out to stay in the second-tier.
For Birmingham, this is a must-win game. A defeat here for City shall be a massive dent to their survival hopes and could have a telling impact on the rest of the season.
It has been 24 years since the Blues played third-tier football, however this prospect looks ever more possible as the season progresses.
