Sergio Agüero Car Crash: Injured But Stable
Sergio Agüero has sustained broken ribs after a car crash. He was travelling in a taxi back to the airport of Amsterdam when the incident occurred shortly after 11 pm.
On viewing the vehicles involved, the incident is rather serious. There were no casualties, but two people have been taken to the hospital, remaining unnamed at this point. Nevertheless, the damage to the vehicles is substantial, a crash that could have had the most serious consequences.
Impact
Fortunately, Agüero escaped with only some broken ribs. However, the in-form striker will be missing for at least three months according to Sky Sports sources in South America. This could have a large impact on Manchester City, who will undoubtedly miss their top striker. He has scored seven goals and notched three assists in all competitions so far. Thus this places him as the most productive player at the club.
Opportunity
Despite the incident and its potentially fatal repercussions, there comes some hope. Whilst Agüero will be missing, it gives an opportunity to other City players. In particular, this pertains to Gabriel Jesus, who is yet to complete 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. Jesus has scored four league goals thus far and is keen to build on this tally, proving to Guardiola that he is capable of leading from the front.
In addition, young strikers Daniel Grimshaw and Phil Foden may well get a chance to feature. They will likely to at least feature on the bench, with Guardiola unable to call upon any other recognised strikers in the squad excluding Jesus. Whilst at the start of the season, the manager claimed that youngsters would not “play much”, it appears he may be forced into giving them game time. This can only be a good thing for a club that utilises foreign imports more than nurtured local youth.
