Liverpool sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal today. After rejecting a contract from Arsenal earlier this week, “The Ox” has been allowed to make the move to Anfield. The fee is £40 million after add-ons.
With the English international entering the last year of his contract, the Reds beat out Chelsea in the race for his signature. The player reportedly rejected a move to Chelsea, favouring his childhood club for the opportunity to play centrally—something Arsene Wenger wouldn’t afford him. Oxlade-Chamberlain is in the England squad this week, and joins up after the break.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal in the summer of 2011, for a fee of £15 million. A career in North London amounted to 9 goals in 130 appearances. He has been deployed as a winger, a central midfielder, and as a wingback. He has been Arsene Wenger’s ultimate utility man. With Chelsea missing out on rumoured signing Alex Sandro, it is expected the Englishman will play almost exclusively at wingback.

The Ox Going Forward
It is unclear where he will slide in immediately, but given the quality of his final ball there is room for him to make the spot his own. Oxlade-Chamberlain is away with the England squad for now, but will be included in the matchday squad the following weekend. With the window winding down, this might be Liverpool’s last deal.
