Having scored two goals on his Manchester United debut last week against West Ham United, Romelu Lukaku is in hot demand and has now been picked by 50% of Premier League fantasy football gamers. The same cannot be said for Harry Kane: his goal scoring draught in August continued at the weekend and it does not look likely to end in the next game against Chelsea. With a full fixture programme for next weekend beginning with the lunchtime kick-off, Swansea City vs Manchester United, here are three players in and out of demand for game week two.
Hot on the Radar
Romelu Lukaku
Last season, Manchester United struggled to beat the so-called smaller sides, drawing many of their games, and Lukaku will play a key role in their winning more matches. Valued on Premier League fantasy football at £11.5 million, the Belgian is £1 million cheaper than Harry Kane The forward registered 13 points in the last game week against the Hammers, following a man of the match performance, and the striker will look to continue his goal scoring form against Swansea.
Jamie Vardy
In a dramatic 4-3 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates on Friday night, Jamie Vardy shined for Leicester City, scoring two goals and registering 13 points for the game week. This week, the Foxes face Brighton and Hove Albion at home and Vardy will be hopeful he can add to his two goals against the newly-promoted side. Valued at a surprising £8.5 million, the striker is considerably cheaper that Lukaku, Kane and Alexandre Lacazette and is a good option for the season ahead. Both Vardy and Lukaku up front could potentially score gamers well over 20 points this weekend and the Englishman is already being snapped up, with 119,526 players bringing the striker into their side.
Phil Jones
It came as quite a surprise that Phil Jones made it into José Mourinho’s side for the first game of the season and if the centre-back can keep his fitness up, he could well be set for a run of games in the side which is good news for fantasy players. This week against Swansea City, the Englishman will be expected to hit six points once again with a clean sheet, with Gylfi Sigurdsson not expected to feature. Valued at just £5 million, Jones is a considerably cheaper option at the back and if he can keep his place in the side, he will soon turn into quite the bargain.
Not so hot
Gary Cahill
When Gary Cahill was sent off against Burnley in the 3-2 loss last weekend, the player moved onto -3 points automatically and for gamers who may have captained him for the game, the outcome would have been even worse. The centre-back will now be suspended for three matches and transferring him out would be the wise decision, something 167,620 players have already done.
Harry Kane
In 15 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur in the month of August, Kane has scored just two goals and not one of those came in the Premier League. His struggles continued at the weekend as he hit the post and scored an offside goal.
The golden boot winner in the last campaign currently stands at an expensive £12.5 million and has been selected by 35% of gamers so far. Since the match against Newcastle on Sunday, however, 76,844 gamers have substituted the centre forward out of the side, with a tough game against champions Chelsea this Sunday. With Manchester United playing Swansea this weekend, Lukaku arguably has a better chance of scoring than Kane and a direct swap of these two players would be wise.
Gylfi Sigurdsson
The future of Icelandic Gylfi Sigurdsson at Swansea City is under huge threat, with the playmaker preferring a move away to Everton whilst Paul Clement refuses to include the midfielder in his plans until the issue is resolved. By leaving the player out of this matchday squad, the Swans are removing their only real goal threat and with the midfielder in charge of taking set pieces, the situation is costing gamers who have the man in their squad valuable points.
Valued at £8.5 million, Sigurdsson has been subbed out by 38,109 gamers and unless he is sold, it does not look likely that he will return to the side at any point. For just £1.0 million more, gamers would be recommended to bring Christian Eriksen. Two assists at the weekend earned him 12 points and he will always be a key part of Spurs’ squad.
