Bluebirds Busy Transfer Activity

Bluebirds Busy Transfer Activity

Only a few days into the transfer window and Cardiff City have already signed two and released two players.

Two players in

Ibrahim Meite and Greg Halford have joined the Bluebirds on permanent deals from Harrow Borough and Rotherham Untied respectively. Meite appears to be a ‘signing for the future’ despite scoring 17 goals in 30 appearances this season. The ‘Shark’ – as he has been nicknamed – has also played a major part in Harrow’s four match run to the first round-proper of the FA Cup.

The experienced Halford joins on an 18-month deal from Rotherham, who were managed by Neil Warnock last season so will know his new gaffer fairly well. He is also familiar with assistant manager Kevin Blackwell who managed Halford at Sheffield United.

Halford told Cardiff City Player:

“I literally can’t wait to get started, meet all the lads, get my boots on and kick on,” He said in an exclusive interview at the Vale Resort.

“I can cover a range of positions, I think that’s why the Manager has brought me in. There isn’t a position that I haven’t played. It’s something that I’ve got in my locker and hopefully I can use it.”

“I was with Whitts [Peter Whittingham] with England U21s,” he added. “I was with Joe Bennett at Brighton and Pelts [Lee Peltier] with Nottingham Forest as well. There are a few of the lads that I know already, which makes it a lot easier.

“I’m here now, I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can do well for the team.”

Three players out

Leaving through the exit door is Lex Immers, one of last seasons stand-out performers. This season he has struggled to settle and his looked largely unfit. Despite his poor form this term, fans will surely give him a warm send-off after bagging five goals in 15 appearances last season. Immers posted a farewell message on his Twitter account to the Bluebirds supporters he leaves behind.

The club have also officially confirmed that Marouane Chamakh has left the club after his contract expired. Former Manchester United and Sunderland winger Kieran Richardson has also been released from his contract, which was due to expire this month. He made just one appearance for the Bluebirds since arriving in October.

The Bluebirds face Fulham at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday 7th January at 11:30am.
