Bundesliga Matchday Ten Preview
With the season already a quarter of the way through, this weekend will feature a couple of matches that could tip the balance in the table. Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim highlight matchday ten, as the two clubs currently sit in first and third place. Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund will look to get back to winning ways with a fixture against last place Hamburg SV.
Hertha BSC vs Borussia Mönchengladbach
Only five points separate these two clubs in the table, and a win for Borussia Mönchengladbach will certainly give them a huge confidence boost. Hertha Berlin are undefeated at home this season, which will provide the visitors with a stern test. In addition, Mönchengladbach have not scored or won a match in their last four Bundesliga fixtures. One of the only things that appears to be going their way entering this match is the fact that they have won the last five meetings between the two sides.
Hamburger SV vs Borussia Dortmund
Struggling Hamburg host a Dortmund side looking to get back into the win column on Saturday. The visitors have drawn three consecutive matches in the league and have slipped down the table as a result. This is the perfect opportunity for them to regain some goal-scoring confidence and pick up three points. For Hamburg, any match where they can get a win will do them good. Upsetting Dortmund could launch a resurgence out of the last spot in the table.
Bayern Munich vs Hoffenheim
Two of the remaining unbeaten clubs in the Bundesliga will battle it out at Allianz Arena. Both sides are in fantastic form at the moment, as Hoffenheim just set a new club record for five straight wins in the league. Bayern were victorious midweek in the Champions League and are through to the round of 16. They have defeated the hosts in all of their 16 previous Bundesliga meetings. Robert Lewandowski is also back in good form, as he has scored four goals in the past week.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Darmstadt
After getting back to winning ways last weekend, Leverkusen will be looking to make it two in a row in the Bundesliga. A win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Wednesday saw them move into second place in their group, as Kevin Kampl provided the winner. Darmstadt are the only club yet to earn a single point on the road this season, and have only managed to score one goal as the visitors.
FC Ingolstadt vs FC Augsburg
This bottom of half of the table clash features two clubs that are struggling at the moment. Ingolstadt have yet to win a match this season and have joined Hamburg at the very bottom of the table with two points. Augsburg have lost two matches in a row, and have only taken four points from their last five matches. On the bright side, they have managed to score at least once in all but one of their away fixtures this season.
SC Freiburg vs Wolfsburg
Freiburg will put their perfect home record on the line on Saturday when they host Wolfsburg. Their first away victory of the season last weekend was a confidence builder as they sit in eighth place in table. Wolfsburg are struggling mightily as they have to yet a match since the opening day of the league. A good start will be key for Freiburg; they have scored first in all five of their wins this season. The visitors have defeated the hosts in the past five meetings between the two sides.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs FC Köln
This will be a battle between two of the hottest defensive and offensive clubs in the league. Köln’s Anthony Modeste is the leading scorer in the Bundesliga at the moment and his hat-trick last weekend was another display of his goal scoring ability. Frankfurt have kept two clean sheets in a row and will be looking to continue their defensive dominance against their visitors. Surprisingly, both of these clubs combined for a total of 12 goals in last seasons two fixtures.
Red Bull Leipzig vs FSV Maniz 05
Red Bull Leipzig continue to impress week after week as they extended their winning streak to four matches last weekend. This could be an interesting match between these two sides as its the first competitive meeting between them. Mainz saw their confidence falter mid week when they fell to Anderlecht 6-1 on Thursday.
FC Schalke vs Werder Bremen
A draw against Dortmund last weekend saw Schalke extend their unbeaten streak to four matches. They were on form midweek as well when they defeated FC Krasnodar in the Europa League. Werder Bremen have struggled in their past two Bundesliga appearances and have conceded a total of 24 goals already. They did, however, defeat Schalke the last time the two sides met.
