Bundesliga Matchday Nine Preview
The Bundesliga season is more than a quarter of the way through and we’ve already seen a couple of surprises. This weekend will provide a couple of eye catching match ups, which includes Dortmund‘s visit to Schalke and Hoffenheim‘s battle with Hertha Berlin in a top of the table clash.
Boruissa Mönchengladbach vs. Eintracht Frankfurt
Mönchengladbach come into this match having yet to win a Bundesliga match in the month of October. They will also be without Thorgan Hazard and Raffael. Frankfurt defeated last placed Hamburg last weekend by a comfortable score of 3-0. Last season, however, they were defeated both times by Mönchengladbach by a combined score of 8-1. With the fine form of players such as Marco Fabian, the result could go their way this time around.
Wolfsburg vs. Bayer Leverkusen
This match features two clubs that we have become accustomed to seeing at the top of the table over the years. Unfortunately, they both have faltered as of late. Wolfsburg have only won once this season, and are on a seven match winless streak. Leverkusen fell in the standings last weekend to 11th after a 3-0 defeat. Both could use a win this weekend, and it should be a hotly contested match.
Werder Bremen vs. SC Freiburg
Freiburg got back on track last weekend with a win, but then fell in midweek in the DFB Cup to Sandhausen. Their inconsistent season has been made worse by the fact that they have yet to win on the road this season. Bremen will be looking to pick up a vital win at home once again, they have taken six out of their seven points from home matches. A victory could also see them climb out of the bottom of the table.
Darmstadt 98 vs. Red Bull Leipzig
Red Bull Leipzig will travel to Darmstadt in hopes of continuing their incredible undefeated sesaon. The newly promoted side has taken the Bundesliga by storm and are in prime position to displace Bayern Munich at the top if results go their way. These two clubs have never met before in the Bundesliga, which should make it an interesting match up on Saturday.
Mainz 05 vs. Ingolstadt
Ingolstadt nearly pulled off the upset last weekend against Dortmund, but a late goal ended their chances of winning their first match of the season. They currently sit in 17th place in the table and are in danger of falling off the pace even further. Mainz have had a solid start to the season, as they sit mid table in ninth place. This could be a golden opportunity for them to pick up three points and move up the table.
F.C. Augsburg vs. Bayern Munich
The two Bavarian sides will face each other for the second time this week. On Wednesday, Bayern won the DFB Cup second round match up by a final score of 3-1. Augsburg have not played well against Bayern in past seasons and will most likely be fighting an uphill battle on Saturday. For Bayern, this could be a big match for Robert Lewandowski, he has been held goalless for five straight matches and will be looking to end his drought.
Borussia Dortmund vs. Schalke 04
Dortmund haven’t won in their past three Bundesliga matches and will look to climb back up the table three points. Schalke, however, come into this match with the better record of late. They have taken seven points from their past three matches and have scored a combined eight goals. Look for this to be another memorable installment in this rivalry.
TSG Hoffenheim vs. Hertha BSG
These two clubs sit side by side in the table at the moment, which should make for a fantastic match up. Hoffenheim are in splendid form as they have yet to lose a match this season. In addition, they have won their past four matches. Hertha have won two in a row and have been undefeated at home thus far.
F.C. Köln vs. Hamburg SV
Hamburg are having a nightmare start to the season, and they face another tough opponent in Köln on Sunday. The club hasn’t scored in six matches and new manager Markus Gisdol has yet to give the club a positive result. For Köln, this could be their way back up the table after falling to Hertha BSC last weekend. Striker Anthony Modeste has an opportunity to continue his impressive season. He currently leads the Bundesliga scoring charts with eight goals.
