Karl Robinson has today been sacked by MK Dons, following yesterday’s 3-0 home loss to Southend.
The 36 year-old joined the Dons in 2010, becoming the youngest manager in the Football League at just 29. He took the job from Paul Ince, who he was assistant to prior to his appointment.

In his first two seasons as Dons boss, he guided them to successive fifth place finishes; each time he lost out in the playoffs though. The next season saw a slight drop in position, finishing eighth. This happened again in the next season, when the Dons dropped down to a tenth place finish.
However, nobody could have predicted what happened next. The 2014/15 season will always be one to remember for MK Dons fans. After Robinson masterminded the 4-0 giant-killing over Manchester United, he always guided the Dons to a second place finish and promotion to the Championship. This was largely thanks to the emergence of Dele Alli. Other significant contributors were Will Grigg and Benik Afobe, who formed a formidable partnership up front.
This success, unfortunately, could not be repeated in the Championship. The 2015/16 season is where it all started to go wrong for Robinson and the Dons. A 19th place finish and no wins in the last ten games meant direct relegation back to League One.
Even upon the return to League One, the Dons have struggled for form. Just four wins all season has piled the pressure on Robinson, and it has all come down to today.
What Happens Next?
A club statement was released upon his sacking. The penultimate paragraph read “Everyone at MK Dons would like to thank Karl for his immense contribution – he will always remain a respected and significant figure at Stadium MK.” It also stated that Robinson’s assistant and head of coaching, Richie Barker, will take charge of the team until a new manager is appointed.
It has been an absolute thrill of a ride under Karl Robinson. He has brought so many good times to this mostly-hated football club. He has gained us more respect than we could ever imagine to receive from opposition fans. However, the last 18 months or so just have not been up to standard. I am sure that all other MK Dons fans will agree with me when I say this. We wish him the best of luck with his managerial career. We are sorry that it had to end like this but you will always be a legend at our club.
