As announced by the club today, defender Danny Rose signs a new five-year contract at Spurs, contracting him to the club till 2021.

Career so far
Tottenham
After transferring from Leeds Academy for the price of £1 million, Rose has had a recent meteoric rise. However, his early years at the club came under much criticism. In terms of his defensive ability he faltered, whilst his product going forward was equally dire. This lead to some widespread criticism from the Tottenham faithful.
In the last three seasons, Rose has improved sevenfold. His defensive ability is good, with good tackling and positional play. The highlight is his attacking contributions, whereby he provides a valuable asset out wide. Often he is able to cross into the box to set up his team-mates. Most recently, he has shown his ability at making his own chances, such as his goal against Liverpool.
England
Rose made his England debut in March 2016 in the 3-2 victory over Germany. Since then he has won eight England caps with steady performances. His highlight is participating in the Euro 2016 tournament, despite crashing out in the Round of 16 versus Iceland.
He has had to adapt to the national team’s style and philosophy. For example, his marauding runs up and down the wing have been tempered. Instead, he plays within himself and with more control. This is mainly due to the fact Mauricio Pochettino relies on his fullbacks for width and therefore Rose has to make these runs. However, under ex-England manager Roy Hodgson, defensive strength was prioritised before width.
There will be many more chances for Rose to help England win some international glory. The Euro 2020 final in London is a stage that he can showcase the best form of his career in front of the English home crowd.
Injury Woes
A hamstring injury has sidelined Rose since the September international break, which has threatened his progress. However, it appears he may be fit for the Middlesborough match on Saturday. Whilst Spurs have fielded Ben Davies and even Jan Vertonghen at left back, Rose’s return will boost the starting eleven.
