The Bundesliga had an interesting weekend of matches. Some of the top clubs regained their form; others slipped up. All-in-all it was an entertaining weekend with plenty to talk about.
Dortmund Get Back On Track
A disappointing result against Red Bull Leipzig last weekend left many fans unsure about what path the club was headed on in the early weeks of the season. Coming into this week, Borussia Dortmund were faced with two matches in four days, which was a concern after a poor showing over the weekend.
In the end, this week turned out to be a complete success as Dortmund outscored their opponents 12-0 in the span of four days. A huge win over Legia Warsaw in the opening match of the Champions League was a complete team effort, with six different players appearing on the score sheet. On Saturday, they dismantled Darmstadt in front of the home fans for another 6-0 win.
The young players of the club had a good showing on Saturday with American Christian Pulisic recording two assists and one goal in the win. Emre More and Sebastian Rode were also on the score sheet.
It will be a tough stretch for Dortmund in the coming weeks. They will have three matches in the span of eight days, including a Champions League match against Real Madrid. If they can take points from all three of these matches, then it will certainly be another confidence boost.
Dream Start For Red Bull Leipzig
The newly promoted club, Red Bull Leipzig, are having a terrific start to their Bundesliga campaign. They followed up their shock win over Borussia Dortmund last weekend with a 4-0 trouncing of Hamburg SV on Saturday. As a result they currently sit in third place in the table and have yet to lose a league match in the opening stretch of the season.
A couple of the younger members of the club have already impressed many with their play, one of whom is striker Timo Werner. The 20-year-old scored a brace in this weekend’s win, and has the potential to be one of the bright young stars of the league this season. Davie Seleke is another promising attacking player who scored in the victory. These two can produce a special season up front if all goes well.
Lewandowski Keeps Rolling
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is in incredible form to start the season. Thus far he’s scored in every Bundesliga match he’s appeared in. This weekend he was on the mark again with a fantastic finish against Ingolstadt. In addition, he scored against FC Rostov in the 5-0 win in the Champions League on Tuesday. He definitely appears to be capable of breaking his own Bundesliga scoring record which he set last season.
Despite already scoring five goals, Lewandowski does have some company in the Bundesliga leading scorer category. Joel Pohjanpalo of Bayer Leverkusen has four goals in two appearances and has surprised many with his finishing ability. He’s only 20 years old and seems to be a star on the rise.
