Women’s World Cup 2023 Favorites, Futures Odds

USA +300

The US Women are eyeing a three-peat and they’re co-favorites to make that happen. The roster will have a different look with some household names from previous editions phased out.

Considerable talent remains in the ranks.

Twenty-three-year-old Catarina Macario will have the opportunity to establish herself as the new face of the program. That is, if she’s recovered from a June ACL tear by the time the tournament begins. The expectation is that she will rejoin training sometime early 2023 and be fit for the tournament.

Macario scored 14 goals and added five assists for Lyon, winners of the 2021-22 Women’s Champions League. Her presence in central attack is a factor the USA is counting on as they pursue a third consecutive World Cup trophy.

Trinity Rodman, 20, is another rising star on the US side. She will have the opportunity to deliver in big moments, as will Rose Lavelle, who scored three goals across six World Cup matches in 2019.

The US Women dropped three of their last four – all friendlies – sparking a modest degree of concern. The recent blip is not scaring sportsbooks into pricing them as a bargain though.

England +300

England won the most recent Women’s European Championship and head into the 2023 Women’s World Cup with confidence and expectations.

England’s squad features firepower and experience. Ellen White, 33, is the veteran. She found the back of the net seven times across 14 career World Cup matches.

Beth Mead and Ella Toone are studs as well. Mead, Toone, and White each have 10-plus goals during World Cup qualifying. England has yet to make it to a World Cup Final. They finished third in 2015 and fourth in 2019.

The US Women won’t look past England, especially after falling to them 2-1 in a friendly on Oct. 7, 2022.

Women’s World Cup 2023 Features More Tough Competition

Spain +600 | Germany +700 | France +700 | Sweden +1200 | Australia +1400

Each of these five nations feature quality soccer heritage that will be on display in July. Spain, Germany, and France stand out as the top challengers, but Sweden and host Australia can’t be ruled out. Women’s World Cup futures will fluctuate between now and July. Bettors, however, can expect each country to make its case this summer.

Both Spain and Germany delivered a defeat to the US Women in recent friendlies, so neither country will be overlooked by anyone.

Each of these nations, save for Australia, delivered a quality showing in the 2021 Women’s European Championship. Spain, Sweden, and Germany (in the final) were each ousted by eventual champion England. Meanwhile, France fell to Germany in the semifinal.

The advantage the US has over the rest of the world is shrinking, and there are a number of countries gunning to further erase whatever gap remains. However, there is enough experience and emerging talent on the US side to suggest they’ll keep the rest of the globe at bay for at least one more cycle.
