Friday NBA Player Prop Picks
Stephen Curry Over 28.5 Points
It’s perfectly reasonable to be bullish on the Warriors at home, both in general and in particular. The opposing Spurs feature the league’s worst defense in terms of rating and points allowed.
The only concern we have is this game getting out of hand early. The Warriors are massive favorites, but they’re also holding onto the Western Conference’s No. 6 seed by a game. The tally in the win column is in their hands, and we don’t expect them to fumble it. Look for Curry to put all of the proverbial nails in San Antonio’s coffin tonight.
Deni Avdija Over 15.5 Points
The Wizards still technically have a shot at the postseason, though their chances are dwindling. They’ll need to keep leaning on the 22-year-old Avdija if they’re going to complete a late-season run into the play-in tournament.
Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma remain sidelined, vacating hefty shot volume for Avdija to assume. He’s averaging 19.3 points over his last four games – all starts – on 13 shot attempts. He reached at least 16 points in three of those four and will have the opportunity to do so again tonight.
Jabari Smith Jr. Double-Double
Smith is starting to play like the No. 3 overall pick. He’s scoring well – double figures in 14 of 15 – and produced a double-double in back-to-back contests. He’s not Mr. Clean on the glass, but his 7.6 boards in March represents his highest monthly average.
The Rockets are 6-point favorites – a testament to the futility of the Pistons – with a modest 228.5 total. We expect plenty of rebounds to be available for Houston. And for Smith to gobble up more than his share in a game in which he should be able to earn extended minutes.
Tip: There’s a reason wagers with long odds come with long odds. Wager judiciously when pursuing plus-money profits.
James Wiseman Over 22.5 Points
Games between two bad teams are often a lot of fun. That’s what we have brewing with tonight’s Pistons-Rockets tilt. Wiseman and Smith Jr. will likely match up and battle it out over extended stretches of tonight’s contest.
Houston is poor offensively, so even though they’re favored, we don’t expect an efficient offensive performance. They’re dirt poor defensively too, providing Wiseman, who’s averaging 14.9 points and 8.8 rebounds over his last 12, a shot at accumulating 23 combined points and boards, a mark he’s reached in seven of his last 12.
