Is Pimblett the Next Conor McGregor?
Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett has told the world he will be the UFC’s biggest box office draw since Conor McGregor.
That’s a tall task but he’ll have the chance to prove it against former Cage Warriors champ Jared Gordon in a co-main event that’s the favorite for fight of the night.
If Pimblett is all he says he is, and he says he’d rather be in an entertaining loss than a boring win, we may look back at this one as the real reason to watch UFC 282.
The Best of the Rest of UFC 282
The main event is a light heavyweight title bout despite the fact the last light heavyweight title holder, Jiří Procházka, and the top light heavyweight contender, Glover Teixeira, aren’t in the fight.
Jan Błachowicz vs. Magomed Ankalaev replaces that former UFC 282 main event for many reasons and though it’s not Procházka-Teixeira, it’s still a world-class matchup.
Błachowicz is a former champ. Ankalaev is a serious light heavyweight contender and the favorite here.
Bryce Mitchell puts his unbeaten 15-0 record up against vs. Ilia Topuria and his undefeated 12-0 record. It’s obviously a tough test for both men. Even oddsmakers are having trouble deciding who is the favorite here. Spoiler Alert: It’s Topuria but barely.
Darren Till once got all the way to a welterweight title fight. Now he’s a middleweight underdog against Dricus Du Plessis, who has knocked out most of the rest of the division on the way to 17 wins.
With just one win against five losses in his last six fights, former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler is a huge dog against aging contender Santiago Ponzinibbio, who is barely better having won just one in his last four.
