Stefanos Tsitsipas has nine career titles but has yet to win a coveted Grand Slam tournament.
The 24-year-old has been knocking on the door at the Australian Open, reaching the semi-final in three of the last four years (2019, 2021, 2022).
With Carlos Alcaraz withdrawing from this year’s Aussie, the door has cracked open a little wider for the world No. 4. Can this be the year he breaks through?

2023 Australian Open Tennis Odds
Stefanos Tsitsipas (+1400)
With Carlos Alcaraz out with a leg injury, Tsitsipas has now moved into the top four favorites to win the tournament.
The Athens native has reached the semis at the Aussie in consecutive years, losing both times to former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev. To win this year, there’s a good chance he’ll again have to go through his Russian rival once again.
The two have squared off 11 times since 2018. Medvedev leads the rivalry 7-4, but Tsitsipas has won four of the last six matches.
Tsitsipas ended last season with a tournament win at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, so he has some momentum heading into 2023.

The favorites
Novak Djokovic (-130)
It’s no surprise that Novak Djokovic is the heavy favorite to take home the crown in Melbourne.
The Serbian star was forced out of last year’s tourney after being deported for his Covid-19 vaccination status but had won the previous three titles.
Djokovic has owned the Aussie throughout his career, winning a record nine singles titles – almost half of his 21 Grand Slams.
He’ll look for number ten this year, with his closest competition, Carlos Alcaraz, sidelined with a leg injury.
Daniil Medvedev (+700)
Daniil Medvedev is one of the best players of his generation but still has just one Grand Slam title (US Open, 2021).
He’s had heart-breaking losses in consecutive Australian Open finals and hopes that 2023 is finally the year that he comes out on top Down Under.
The 2022 season saw Medvedev slip from world No. 1 to his current No. 8. While he did win his 250th career match and 15th title, he didn’t make it past the quarters in any of the other Grand Slam tournaments.
The Moscow native is 19-6 all-time at Melbourne Park.
Dark horses to keep an eye on
Nick Kyrgios (+1800)
It was a resurgent year for Australia’s own Nick Kyrgios.
The New South Wales native climbed to a career-high world No. 13, reaching the final at Wimbledon and the quarters at the US Open. He also added an Australian Open doubles title for good measure.
Kyrgios always puts on a show at the Aussie but has yet to make it past the quarter-final (2015). The controversial 27-year-old is at the top of his game right now and enters this year’s tourney as a legitimate contender.
Now might be the time to hop on those +1800 odds.
Felix Auger-Aliassime (+2100)
Felix Auger-Aliassime shot up the world rankings in 2022, winning four titles and reaching the quarters at the Australian Open.
He has never made a semi-final in a Grand Slam tournament, but the way things are going for the young Canadian, you must think he’s close.
The 22-year-old is currently No. 6 in the ATP rankings and comes into the Aussie with some puffy +2100 odds at tennis betting sites.
With Djokovic and Nadal getting long in the tooth and Alcaraz out, the opportunity is ripe for Auger-Aliassime to claim his first Slam.
