Best Spurs vs. Jazz Player Props

Lauri Markkanen Under 30.5 Points

Markkanen can certainly score at a high clip – he’s averaging 27 points over his last 14 contests. However, that only includes two instances of scoring 31 or more.

The concern with betting the Over in this spot is the blowout potential of this contest. The Jazz, 9.5-point home favorites, are fresh off of a 16-point win over the Spurs, who have been helpless on the road (5-26) – well, helpless on the basketball court period.

Markkanen played just over 32 minutes in that contest, a bit short of his season average. A lopsided score will likely allow the Jazz to ease up on Markkanen once again.

Keldon Johnson (+6.5) vs. Lauri Markkanen

Johnson is not the scorer Markkanen has been this season, but the spread here undervalues Johnson’s ability. Not to mention the blowout potential of this contest.

Three-point proficiency is not a strength of Johnson’s, but he’s been efficient from the field across his last 10 (50.3% on 16.1 attempts). Bettors who anticipate another blowout may want to consider how such a scenario unfolds tonight. If Markkanen is able to coast while Johnson tries to carry the Spurs to as respectable a finish as possible, the 6.5-point spread may provide the room Johnson needs in order to cover.

Walker Kessler Over 3.5 Blocks + Steals

Kessler’s defensive props have increased in relation to his playing time and production. He’s averaging 3.3 blocks alone over his last 10, plus adding 0.8 steals for good measure. Kessler blocked five or more shots on three occasions over that span and recorded at least four blocks-plus-steals on six.

The Spurs attempt the second most two-point attempts in the league, theoretically providing Kessler ample opportunity to send multiple shots back to their senders. Furthermore, San Antonio surrenders the second most steals in the league, so it’s reasonable to anticipate the Spurs’ loose handles resulting in a couple of swipes for the Jazz’s rookie big man.

Walker Kessler Over 11.5 Rebounds

Kessler pulled down 12 boards against the Spurs in his most recent outing, doing so in a modest 27 minutes. His per-game average over his last 10 is only a little higher at 28.8 minutes, but he has logged 30 or more minutes of burn on five of those occasions.

As we’ve discussed, this matchup has blowout potential. While that could theoretically limit the likes of Markkanen, it could provide an opportunity for Kessler to stretch his legs into the 30s once again. Reaching that level of playing time hasn’t guaranteed gaudy production, but considering his efficiency in this department, the prospect of more minutes warrants Over consideration.
