The two Heisman Trophy frontrunners didn’t do much to support their case last week. Both C.J. Stroud and Hendon Hooker had uncharacteristically rough outings.
Last year’s Heisman race saw a seesaw battle between Stroud and Alabama’s Bryce Young. Young pulled ahead down the final stretch to lead ‘Bama to the CFB National Championship game.
Stroud is locked into another too-close-to-call battle this year but currently sits atop the leaderboard at +145. But Michigan RB Blake Corum is gaining fast.

Who is the Heisman Trophy favorite?
Once a running back’s award, the Heisman Trophy has been dominated by the quarterback position in recent years.
Football has pivoted to a pass-heavy sport over the last decade, and QBs have taken home the Heisman hardware in 10 of the previous 12 seasons.
All but one of the current Top 10 favorites play under center. Michigan running back Blake Corum is the exception.
C.J. Stroud +145
C.J. Stroud dazzled as a redshirt freshman last season. He led the Heisman race at times and finished fourth in overall voting at the season’s end.
He opened this year with the second shortest odds. Aside from last week’s blip, he’s continued his meteoric rise. The California native has led his Buckeyes to a 9-0 record and they currently sit at #1 in the AP rankings.
Stroud boasts an impressive 67.9 completion rate with 29 passing TDs to just four picks. He’ll have a chance to pad his stats this week in a home game against Indiana, where Ohio State is favored by 40.
Hendon Hooker +300
Hooker burst onto the scene this season and led the upstart Volunteers to a #1 ranking before last week’s dud in Georgia. The 6’4″ pivot has thrown for over 2,500 yards and tossed just two interceptions for a minuscule 0.8 INT%.
Before this week’s dip, Hooker had skyrocketed to number one in the Heisman odds race after starting the year at +6500.
We’ll see if the 24-year-old can bounce back this Saturday against Missouri. He failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time all season last week against the Bulldogs’ shutdown defense.
Blake Corum +600
Corum has had a monster season and has been the focal point of the offense for the 3rd-ranked Michigan Wolverines. The 21-year-old junior has a jaw-dropping 1,187 rushing yards through nine games at a 6.0 YPC clip.
Running backs have won the Heisman Trophy 40 times through the years but just once in the last 12. The last RB to take home the honor was The King himself – Derrick Henry.
Corum will be in rare air if he can accomplish the feat. The speedy back will look to have a field day this week against a struggling Nebraska team that has surrendered 182.9 yards on the ground this season.
