Liberty vs Aces Game 1

The Liberty grabbed an 87-77 victory over the Aces in Game 1, beating the -4 spread and surpassing the over/under total of 163.5. Breanna Stewart stole the show with a stellar performance of 34 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. She shot an impressive 12-of-19 from the field and hit 50% from beyond the arc. After a weaker showing in last year’s WNBA Finals against the Aces, Stewart’s play in Game 1 set the tone that this would be a very different series than last year.

The Aces struggled to find their footing in Game 1, falling behind early and never regaining traction. While A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum had solid performances, they lacked enough support to keep pace with the Liberty’s top players. Wilson, the WNBA MVP, scored 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting, along with six rebounds and five assists, but finished with a team-worst plus/minus of -17.

Aces Put Up A Better Fight in Game 2

In Game 2, the Aces came out to an early first-quarter lead. The Liberty responded with a huge second quarter, outscoring the Aces 24-13. Although the Aces kept things close throughout the second half, they simply didn’t have enough to regain control, losing 88-84. The Liberty were -4.5 point favorites in Game 2, so the Aces covered, and the point total went over the scoring line projection of 163.5.

Sabrina Ionescu was the star for the Liberty, scoring 24 points with nine rebounds and five assists. Leonie Fiebich and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton each had a pair of threes, and the Aces got 21 points from their bench. Wilson was the best player for the Aces, with 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting. She got some help from Jackie Young’s 17 points, but Plum only added six points. Wilson is going to need a lot more scoring help in Game 3 if the Aces want to prolong this series.

Liberty vs Aces Spread Game 3

Although the Liberty handled both Game 1 and 2, they are +2.5 underdogs in Game 3. They are +120 to win straight up, while the Aces are -148 to grab the win at home. The over/under total for the game is set at 166. The first three matchups between these teams went under the projected point total, but the last two playoff games have gone over. New York covered in Game 1, and the Aces narrowly covered in Game 2. With their backs against the wall, the defending champions should put up a strong fight in Game 3, meaning their -2.5 spread could be enticing.
