Liberty Were Stronger This Season

The Liberty enter the series as the top seed, finishing the season with a stellar 32-8 record. Throughout the regular season, they established themselves as the most dominant team, led by Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones. New York’s ability to sweep the Atlanta Dream in the first round only reaffirmed their status as the team to beat.

On the other hand, the Aces had a slightly rockier journey. Despite finishing the season with a 27-13 record, they encountered some bumps during the regular season. Injuries and midseason slumps threatened to end their pursuit of a third consecutive title. However, they found their championship form late in the year, closing out the regular season by winning nine of their last ten games. The Aces then swept the Seattle Storm in the opening round of the playoffs. The Aces are driven by the 2024 MVP A’ja Wilson. Wilson’s ability to dominate on both ends of the floor will be crucial for Las Vegas in this rematch.

Liberty vs. Aces History

New York swept the Aces 3-0 this season, including two wins in Las Vegas. While the regular season results may favor New York, playoff basketball often brings out different dynamics, especially for a two-time defending champion like Las Vegas.

In terms of matchups, the Wilson vs. Stewart showdown will once again be the focal point. Both players are former MVPs and bring unique skills to the table. Wilson’s dominance on the glass and ability to score in the post will be pivotal for the Aces, while Stewart’s versatility and shooting touch make her a difficult cover for Las Vegas. However, the outcome of this series may depend on the play of the supporting cast. Players like Ionescu for New York and Kelsey Plum for Las Vegas will need to step up to tip the scales.

Bettors should also consider home-court advantage. The Liberty have earned the top seed, meaning they’ll host Games 1, 2, and, if necessary, Game 5 at Barclays Center. The Liberty were 16-4 at home this year, and the Aces were 14-6 on the road.

WNBA Odds

The current odds for the Liberty vs Aces playoff series are the Liberty -158 and the Aces +134. Although the Aces are the two-time defending champions, the Liberty have earned their spot as the favorites in this series. It is hard to know whether the Ace’s late-season push is more representative of their potential or their less-than-stellar regular season. The Liberty will be hungry to dethrone the defending champions and certainly have the talent to do so. This series may be closer than the WNBA playoff odds suggest. However, there is a good chance the Aces’ reign of dominance ends here.
