Dominant Liberty Season

The New York Liberty were dominant this WNBA season. They finished the season with the best record in the league and are currently the favorites to win it all with +125 WNBA Championship odds. New York has been led this season by the talented threesome of Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones

The Liberty finished the season with a 32-8 record and were 20-20 against the spread. The Liberty struggled against the spread at home this season, only covering in six of their 20 home games. The total has gone under in four of the last five games for the Liberty.

Is the Dream Over?

The Atlanta Dream ended the season with a 15-25 record, just enough to sneak into the WNBA playoffs. They are currently projected as the least likely team to win a WNBA championship with +100000 odds. Rhyne Howard is the Dream’s star and leading scorer, averaging 17.3 points and 4.4 rebounds this season.

The Dream finished the season 21-17 against the spread. They covered the spread much more often in away games, going 13-7. This gives some hope to Dream backers that, although unlikely to win, they could cover the spread for WNBA playoff odds in Game 2.

Game 1 Results and Game 2 Odds

The Liberty controlled Game 1 from start to finish. They won 83-69, narrowly covering the -13 spread and going under the projected win total of 156.5. The Liberty never trailed and led by as much as 18 points during the game. Leonie Fiebich was the star of the night, scoring a career-high 21 points in her playoff debut.

The Dream vs Liberty odds for Game 2 are once again -13, and the total points are set at 156.5. The Liberty are -1200 to win straight up, and the Dream are +680 to upset them. This season, the Dream and Liberty played each other four times, New York covering the first two games and Atlanta covering the next two. Three of the four games went under the projected win total.

All signs are pointing to a Liberty win in Game 2, but the question is, will the Dream put up a better fight and cover the spread? New York’s history of covering less in home games is certainly worth considering. The Dream has also covered more on the road. Tune in Tuesday to see which way the WNBA playoff odds shake out.
