8-Year NBA Veteran to Continue Playing Career Overseas

There are four NBA teams without an Olympic player.

10 years after making his NBA debut with the New York Knicks, former All-Rookie selection Langston Galloway has signed with Italian team Trapani Shark of the LBA. Last season, Galloway spent time with Unahotels Reggio Emilia and averaged 16.9 points per game. This was the fourth-best in the league last season.

Galloway was last seen in the NBA playing for the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks during the 2021-22 season. However, he is perhaps most known for his time with the Knicks. In New York, the Louisiana native averaged 9.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over parts of two seasons with the team. The guard also spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, and Phoenix Suns.

Langston Galloway Wanted a Return to the NBA

Galloway is a member of the 2024 USA Select Team for the Olympics this year. This means he is part of the group that helps Team USA train for the event. Managing director Grant Hill spoke about Galloway’s presence on the team, saying he “has been great.”

“Langston has been great,” USA Basketball managing director Grant Hill told Andscape. “He was with us last year during our World Cup run as well. He really understands the FIBA game, having played professionally in Europe and being a member of our World Cup qualifying teams. He, Micah and Nigel play an important role in our overall preparation for Paris. We are thankful for their presence and contributions to our team’s success.”

Furthermore, Galloway has made it clear that he hopes to eventually make it back to the NBA. He also mentioned he had already had other offers from overseas teams. With the recent news, it likely means there was no NBA opportunity for him at this point.

“That is definitely the goal.” Galloway said. “If I can get an opportunity from any team to lace them back up in the NBA, that’s the goal. I have a few [European] offers on the table. I’m just waiting for a couple of things to unfold with the EuroLeague, EuroCup situation team-wise, and then my team as well that I played for this past year. Obviously, they’ve offered me, but I’m just waiting for a couple of other teams, EuroLeague to unfold. Then, I can make a decision and see what is next.”

The Last Word on Langston Galloway

Although he was never an All-Star or even a regular starter, Galloway was a solid guard in the NBA. Over his eight-year career, he averaged 8.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. Additionally, he is a career 36.8% shooter from the three-point line. However, especially after signing with another overseas team, it seems incredibly unlikely Galloway will make it back to the league. He is turning 33 in July and has not appeared in 40 or more NBA games in a season since the 2020-21 campaign. Regardless, being a member of the USA Select Team is a big step in the right direction for the former NBA guard as he keeps his comeback dreams alive.
