Theis began last season with the Indiana Pacers. However, he only appeared in one game before the team bought him out. The 32-year-old would go on to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he would assume a backup role. On the year, Theis averaged 6.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1 assist per game.
Theis has played in the NBA for seven years. Parts of five of those seasons were spent with the Boston Celtics as part of two separate stints with the team. Additionally, Theis has played for the Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls as well.

Sidery mentions that Theis is a potential candidate for contending teams looking for big-man depth. Additionally, he mentions Theis as a name to watch on the veteran’s minimum market. Because of this, another stop in Boston could make sense for Theis. After his departure from Indiana during the season, Theis said he “had a couple of conversations” with the team before joining the Clippers.
“Obviously, I had a couple of conversations (with Boston),” Theis told MassLive after the Clippers 115-96 win Saturday. “I talked to Jayson (Tatum) a little bit there with Jaylen (Brown). But like I said, the Clippers were pretty fast, gave me the right chance at the right time.
Furthermore, from Boston’s perspective, Theis might be the guy they are looking for. This summer, big men Xavier Tillman and Luke Kornet are unrestricted free agents. Due to their minimal financial flexibility this summer, it is possible they lose one or both of them. Additionally, due to Kristaps Porzingis‘ injury he suffered during the NBA Finals, he may miss time during the regular season. Bringing Theis back on a veteran minimum will likely be something GM Brad Stevens will consider during the offseason.

The Last Word on Daniel Theis
Theis is a solid big man who can stretch the floor. He provides solid depth and is a good veteran presence. While playing overseas appears to be a realistic option for Theis, it is fair to assume he will receive interest from NBA teams as well. It will be interesting to see where the German native will take his talents next season.
